The trail can be accessed from the Wilderness Road Trail, with trailheads in Kentucky and Tennessee.

The Kentucky access point is either at the Visitor Center along US 25E, with the trail reachable via the Thomas Walker Trail, or from the Thomas Walker parking lot along Sugar Run Road (at the junction with Pinnacle Road). The Tennessee access point is at the Daniel Boone parking lot in Cumberland Gap.
